Brooklyn band Small Black are one of a seemingly countless number of young bands that operate with washes of glowing synthesizers, drum machines and hazy reverb-slicked vocals—a predominantly electronic-driven soundscape that's often muddy and indistinguishable. But in the case of this New York quartet, this overplayed indie-pop scenario somehow manages to be contagious: rhythms swing and shuffle, vocals bristle with life, and the synthetic textures pull you into a fairy tale of beeps, whistles and waves.
