Digging For Covers: The Jags beef up Cat Stevens

British power-pop band the Jags (pictured in this terribly awesome press photo to the left) only played for three years —from 1978 to 1981—but in that time they released a couple great songs, including "Back of My Hand" and this great rendition of Cat Stevens' classic "Here Comes My Baby."

Just listened to the Tremeloes version for the first time. It's fun, but very similar to the original--which Cat Stevens recorded in 1967 on his album Matthew and Son.

I just like the novelty of the Jags version--transforming it to a different genre with those sharp power chords and that Elvis Costello slur.
